Original Joyful Songs has no accounts, no advertising and no third party analytics. This page says plainly what the site keeps and why.

What the site keeps

When a song has played for thirty seconds the site counts one play for that song. The count is stored with a keyed hash of your visit, so the same visit is not counted twice, and it identifies no person.

When you like a song the site stores the like against a random token it has given your device, so the heart stays lit when you return and a second tap removes it. The token identifies your device to this site only.

To keep the play and like endpoints fair, the site keeps a short lived, keyed hash of your network address with a count of recent requests. Nothing else is derived from it.

What the site does not keep

The site keeps no names, no email addresses and no accounts. It sends no email. It runs no analytics from another company, and no advertising or social network script loads on any page.

The share options open the app you choose with the link ready to send. Nothing is sent to that app until you choose it, and the site is not told what you did there. QR codes are drawn on your device.

Messages you send

A message sent through the Contact page is stored on this site as the text you typed, with the name and reply address you chose to give, and is read by the person behind the songs. The reply address is used only to answer you. No email is sent from the site. Messages are kept so that a conversation can be followed up, and nothing else about you is stored with them.

Small files stored in your browser

The site stores three small values in your browser. One marks your visit so a play is counted once. One is the random device token described above, kept for a year. One carries the key that lets the site's own player fetch the audio, and it ends when you close the browser. None of them is read by anyone else.

Your browser also remembers, on your device only, a few preferences such as the repeat setting. For the open tab only, it also remembers which song was playing and where it was, so the music can carry on after a page reload.

Server records and the network

Like every website, the web server keeps standard records of requests, such as the address a request came from, the page asked for and the time, for operation and security. Traffic reaches the site through a network service that protects it, and that service may set its own technical values in your browser under its own policy.

Changes

If what the site keeps ever changes, this page changes with it.
